The Naming Ritual
We love the rituals that come with coffee.
Weighing the beans pre and post-roast.
Monitoring and manually adjusting the roaster mid-roast to hit your desired roast curve.
Optimising your grind to remove a bitter edge, or improve cup sweetness.
Distributing grinds in the portafilter to remove clumping.
There's an endless number of things to get caught up in, in what is really just grinding down a cherry seed and pouring water on it.
So when it came to deciding how we were going to name our coffees , rather than coming up with an arbitrary name or getting too pretentious we just decided to come up with another ritual.
Taking inspiration from styles of artwork we love - classic pen and ink fantasy artwork, 70s and 80s comics, skate culture, old school punk and classic tattoo iconography, we came up with our first set of 'glyphs'.
These are all lovingly hand drawn by collective member Jack before being vectorised and turned into computer graphics.

Through a sequence of dice roles and complex modifier rules we dreamt up, fate choses two (or three in rare circumstances!) glyphs from which to devise a name.
This interactive, human powered element is important to us and if you come along to one of our events you may even get the opportunity to roll a new name yourself...
Over time we'll bring in new designs and retire old ones, but for now this is the current set. From this we can not only name our coffees, but create merchandise, build our brand and ensure everything we do is stylistically tired together.
Join us as we build a coffee brand, not just a roaster.
